The Katy ISD/Cy-Fair ISD Volleyball Tournament returns with another impressive field Aug. 11-13 at eight area high schools.
The 48-team event includes more than 30 postseason qualifiers from 2021, highlighted by four returning state tournament teams.
Class 6A state champion Northside Brandeis returns, along with 6A semifinalist Bridgeland, 5A semifinalist New Braunfels Canyon and 4A semifinalist Bellville. Brandeis is also the defending Katy/Cy-Fair champion, defeating Cypress Ranch in last year’s final. Canyon, which won the tournament in 2019, and Katy completed the top bracket.
Two-time Region III-6A finalist Katy is among the top returning teams. The tournament includes 13 that advanced to at least the third round of the playoffs last year, such as III-6A regional semifinalist Dawson and III-5A finalist College Station.
Klein, Tompkins, Cinco Ranch, Cypress Woods, Lake Creek and A&M Consolidated were all area champions last season.
The tournament starts with 12 pools of four, each team advancing to second-round division. The top two in each pool remain in contention for the top four-team brackets.
Teams advance through three-team divisions and a challenge match to determine the final bracket. The top four teams will play in the Gold bracket. Matches are best-of-three until a five-set format in the final brackets.
Host campuses are Cy Woods, Cinco Ranch, Bridgeland, Katy, Cy-Fair, Katy Taylor, Tompkins and Jersey Village. Bridgeland hosts the Gold and Silver brackets.
