MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State football’s Byron Ellis has been named General Manager, head coach Mike Neu announced Friday. Ellis, who is entering his seventh season on Neu’s staff, was previously the Director of Football Administration/Chief of Staff.
“I’m fired up to name Byron as our General Manager,” Neu said. “He’s meant so much to our program since we came in together prior to the 2016 season. I lean so much on him with everything that takes place off the field. He does such a great job of being so detailed and meticulous and does everything in a first-class way. It’s awesome to be able to recognize him, and I’m looking forward to continuing our great partnership for many years to come.”
Ellis’ role includes administrative duties and team operations for the Cardinals. As an initial member of Neu’s staff upon arrival in 2016, Ellis has been in his role for the past six seasons.
In 2020, Ellis received the program’s 12th man of the year award through his efforts during Ball State’s run to a Mid-American Conference title and the first bowl victory in program history.
He has been working for football teams in operations and business positions for more than 15 years. Prior to his arrival, Ellis spent time at Tulane as the director of football operations from 2012-15. Other stops for Ellis include the United Football League, the UFL’s Omaha Nighthawks, the Arena League’s New Orleans VooDoo and the NFL’s New Orleans Saints.
