We should have seen this coming.
And maybe you did. That doesn’t make the news that dropped on Monday any better.
Retired judge Sue L. Robinson handed down a ruling on how long Cleveland Browns QB Deshaun Watson would be suspended by the NFL for violating the league’s personal conduct policy: Six games.
That’s not even half the season, a shock given that 24 women accused him of sexual misconduct, and almost all of the civil cases have reportedly been settled.
It’s worth noting, per USA TODAY Sports: “The collective bargaining agreement allows the NFL to appeal if it disagrees with Robinson’s decision. NFL commissioner Goodell or an official of his choosing would handle that appeal decision.”
So it’s possible he gets a longer suspension beyond. But NFL fans everywhere couldn’t believe how short this suspension was as of Monday morning:
Six games is not enough.

Embarrassing day for the NFL

I am not really shocked by six games. The world is awful.
This, though, is just wild. Putting this in the decision suggests you believe the women, which means you gave six games for rape allegations you believe are true. https://t.co/caqcohJ6Ek

Incredible for the news of a man being suspended for six games to come in the same morning where it was reported that he settled a few more cases out of the tens that were brought against him

The NFL has big time sponsors in Caesars Sportsbook, DraftKings, and FanDuel and Calvin Ridley got suspended an entire year for betting $1500 on games. Deshaun Watson had 24 cases accusing him of sexual misconduct while have 60+ massage therapists & only got six games. Egregious. https://t.co/YOPl5VRf9i

Pretty weird “we believe you have a problem, but we don’t think it’s a big enough problem to suspend you more than six games” energy https://t.co/CEeug6dOZt

No fine, record breaking contract & only serving six games. They can preach all they want about protecting, defending and providing resources for sexual assault survivors— but the lack of action and inability to create change speaks volumes about their priorities.
Sickening. https://t.co/C6YJE0KGcx

Calvin Ridley got a one year suspension for gambling, but Deshaun Watson only gets six games for 24 women accusing him of sexual misconduct.
Make it make sense. https://t.co/9pwE8Njihp

Calvin Ridley made a bet that his team will win a game in the NFL
He got suspended indefinitely, through at least the entire 2022 season and possibly more.
He also lost $11.1 million in salary.
Deshaun Watson meanwhile received 6 game suspension, he’ll only lose less than $1M. https://t.co/hAt2Ft6TmJ

Hard to believe. And totally expected. Don’t let the NFL fool you into thinking anything other than: It’s just business. Sorry women, it’s Nothing Personal. https://t.co/aAquHLfGY0
