HOBOKEN, N.J. (August 9, 2022) – No. 25 Stevens Institute of Technology men’s soccer announced its 2022 schedule Tuesday. The campaign features 16 matches, including eight at the DeBaun Athletic Complex, where the Ducks are 38-10-4 under seventh-year head coach Dale Jordan, and culminates with the MAC Freedom Championship, where the Ducks will seek to defend their 2021 crown. The slate also includes a pair of matches against participants in the 2021 NCAA DIII Men’s Soccer Championship.
The season gets underway on Sept. 1 when the Ducks head to Purchase, New York to take on Manhattanville. Formerly annual opponents in the Skyline Conference, the opening-night contest will be the first meeting between the teams since 2015. Stevens is unbeaten over the last 11 meetings between the programs.
The home opener is on Sept. 4, when Stevens hosts No. 19 Franklin & Marshall. The Diplomats defeated SUNY Poly in the opening round of the 2021 DIII Men’s Soccer Championship and finished the year 15-4-1. Each of the last three meetings between the teams have been decided by one goal, including the Diplomats’ 1-0 double-overtime victory on Sept. 18. 2019, which marked the last meeting between the programs.
A road match at nearby Rutgers-Newark follows on Sept. 7, before the Ducks welcome Vassar and Springfield to campus for consecutive contests Sept. 10-11. Stevens has swept the back-to-back matches in two of the last three seasons. The back-to-back matches mirror potential NCAA play.
Road matches against rivals NYU (Sept. 13) and TCNJ (Sept. 17) follow, before the Ducks welcome Widener to campus on Sept. 24 to round out the non-conference portion of the schedule and kick off the longest homestand of the season that sees Stevens play three straight matches in Hoboken. The conference opener against King’s (Oct. 1) is the middle match of the homestand before FDU-Florham comes to Hoboken on Oct. 5 to round out the sequence. Stevens has served as host for three of the last four meetings between the programs and the Ducks have won each of the last 10 meetings.
The first of four trips to the Keystone State comes on Oct. 8, when the Ducks head to Wilkes-Barre to take on Wilkes. The Ducks will also head to Pennsylvania on Oct. 15 to take on Lycoming, Oct. 19 to take on DeSales, and on Oct. 25 for the season finale with Arcadia in a rematch of last year’s MAC Freedom semifinal, which Stevens won in double-overtime.
Delaware Valley comes to the DeBaun Athletic Complex on Oct. 11 and the home slate is rounded out with Misericordia on Oct. 22 in a rematch of last season’s conference championship match, which saw the teams play to a scoreless draw with the Ducks advancing on penalties.
Postseason play is set to begin on Nov. 1 with the MAC Freedom play-in game.
