After nearly 10 years away, the North Huron co-ed four-on-four volleyball tournament is making a return.
On Aug. 27, co-ed teams of four will check in at 8:30 a.m. to the North Huron high school gym for action. The winning team receives double their entrance fee, and proceeds benefit the North Huron volleyball team. The cost per team is $100, or $25 per person.
“This tournament started as a fundraiser for the volleyball program years ago,” coach Natasha Leppek said. “I’ve been hoping to bring it back for a few years, but lack of time and other circumstances, like COVID-19 in 2020, prevented it.”
The funds raised from the tournament will benefit the North Huron volleyball program.
“We’re hoping to purchase updated jerseys for both varsity and JV teams, and purchase more practice volleyballs,” Leppek said.
Each match will feature two four-on-four teams consisting of two men and two women. The tournament will begin as a round-robin, dependent on how many teams apply, and standings will determine bracket play.
Leppek also said she is hoping to make the tournament an annual event if successful.
“If any team is interested, please sign up by calling or texting coach Gembarski or myself,” she said. “Please include your team name, team captain’s name and phone number, and shirt sizes. Anyone signed up by Aug. 12 will be guaranteed a commemorative T-shirt.”
Any interested teams should contact coach Natasha Leppek at 989-768-0445 or coach Raegan Gembarski at 989-551-7235 and provide your team name, team captain’s name and phone number, and shirt sizes by Aug. 12.
