WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Thirty days before kicking off the 2022 season, Purdue Football began fall camp at the Bimel Practice Complex Tuesday afternoon. The Boilermakers returned to the practice fields under sunny skies on a warm day in West Lafayette.
Getting the team back together and ready for the season opener (Sept. 1 vs. Penn State), head coach Jeff Brohm believed the Boilermakers arrived prepared for the first day of camp.
“The guys came out ready to practice,” said Brohm. “They understand the importance of getting better every day. We’re pushing ourselves to play harder, to play faster and to finish. Those are things we’re just going to have to work through as we get through camp.”
Excitement surrounds the Boilermakers after a nine-win season, their most victories in a single season since 2003. Purdue tied for second in the Big Ten West a year ago, which included a pair of Top 5 victories over Iowa and Michigan State. The memorable season was capped off with a thrilling 48-45 overtime victory over Tennessee at the TransPerfect Music City Bowl in Nashville.
With 13 starters back, including All-Big Ten quarterback Aidan O’Connell, Purdue brings a veteran presence into 2022. Having experience is even more important when the season opener is a Big Ten battle. The Nittany Lions come to town for a Thursday night tussle under the Ross-Ade Stadium lights.
The Boilermakers return to the practice fields Wednesday before heading over to Ross-Ade Stadium on Friday (Aug. 5) for the team’s annual Fan Day. The free event is open to the public with a two-hour practice set to begin at 6 p.m. Stadium gates A and F will open at 5 p.m. Once inside the facility, fans are invited to enjoy a plethora of yard games and activities in the south end zone, including corn hole, football toss, and a prize wheel to win Purdue giveaways. One lucky fan will have the opportunity to make a field goal to win 2022 Purdue Football season tickets.
Purdue Football practices through August 12 are open to the media and public. Practices will take place either on the outdoor practice fields at the Bimel Practice Complex or on the Mollenkopf Athletic Center indoor field, depending on weather. Fans can enter through the northeast corner of the KFPC practice fields for outdoor practices. For indoor practices, fans can use the southeast entrance of the Mollenkopf Athletic Center. Fans and media members must remain in designated, roped off areas during the open practices. Taking photos or recording video during the practices is strictly prohibited.
